In light of the tragic landslide incident that hit Barangay Tinaan in Naga City last September 2018, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered on his promise to find a sustainable and affordable resettlement site for the landslide victims as he broke ground and laid the time capsule for the Naga Permanent Housing Project in a ceremony held in the province of Cebu.

“We need to strengthen the preparedness resilience of our communities in times of disasters, weather disturbances, and other emergency situations,” said President Duterte.

The landslide temporarily displaced 8,091 residents or 1,947 families who were housed in 11 evacuation centers for almost three (3) months.

While citing the country’s urgent need for an improved disaster response, President Duterte acknowledged the efforts of the National Housing Authority (NHA), the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), the local government units (LGUs) of Naga City, and the provincial government of Cebu for its involvement in making the housing project possible and extending financial support to the bereaved families and injured landslide victims.

“Let me assure you of this administration’s unwavering commitment to help to rebuild the lives of the landslide victims and their families to the provision of housing and other necessary assistance,” President Duterte stressed.

With the partnership between public and private institutions in Naga City showing positive results, the Chief Executive expressed his confidence in the city’s capacity to overcome natural and man-made disasters in the future.

Set to construct 192 housing units, the housing project for the calamity victims is a joint undertaking among the NHA, HLURB, and the LGUs of Naga City and Cebu province that donated the land to be used for the project.
