President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined Chinese President Xi Jinping in a bilateral meeting at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

Their meeting agenda included discussions on further deepening the Philippines and China’s shared goals under the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation.

In an interview with Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago ‘Chito’ Sta. Romana prior to the event, he said that President Duterte might also raise issues concerning the recent developments in maritime territory, particularly in the South China Sea.

After the bilateral meeting, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of agreements signed by Philippine Cabinet Secretaries and their Chinese counterparts that pertain to different areas of cooperation including education, science and technology, customs matters, among others.

The Philippines and China have been enjoying centuries-old partnership long before the formal establishment of diplomatic relations on June 9, 1975.
