President Rodrigo Roa Duterte asserted the government’s stance on the importance of infrastructure connectivity in the over-all development of the country as he led the inauguration of the Candon City Bypass Road in the Province of Ilocos Sur.

Considered a part of the administration’s ‘Build, Build, Build’ project for the Ilocos Region, President Duterte emphasized the bypass road’s role in the enhancement of connectivity within the province as it promotes economic activity and mobility.

“Let me acknowledge the efforts of the Department of Public Works and Highways for the successful completion of this 7-kilometer bypass road. I also thank the local government of Candon and the surrounding towns for their steadfast support for this project,” he said.

The bypass road is expected to decongest traffic along Manila North Road and the northern municipalities in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra. It reduces travel time between the municipalities of Sta. Lucia and Santiago in Ilocos Sur from 40 minutes to 20 minutes, and benefits an estimated number of 13,000 motorists per day.

The President expressed his hope that the completion of the Candon City Bypass Road shall serve as a motivation for government workers in ensuring the timely implementation and completion of all ongoing infrastructure projects.

He also encouraged the private sector for their active participation in these kinds of government initiatives.

“With the help of our dedicated local government officials and with the hardworking people of Ilocos Region, I believe that we can maximize the opportunities presented with this recent development,” President Duterte stated.
