President Rodrigo Roa Duterte commended the vital role of prosecutors in the country in the administration’s campaign against criminality, illegal drugs, and corruption as he graced the 31st Annual Convention of the Prosecutors’ League of the Philippines (PLP) in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

As a former prosecutor himself, President Duterte said that he knew the great responsibility they are carrying in terms of securing and giving fair justice to the country.

“I understand the very important role that you play in the administration of justice, which unfortunately involves antagonizing lawless elements, hardened criminals, and their powerful backers,” he said.

He acknowledged the dangers and hazards that prosecutors face, including assassination, but he assured that law enforcement agencies are expediting the investigation of these cases.

“I also encourage the leadership of the Prosecutors’ League to work with the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation, and the other relevant agencies to come up with solutions on how to better protect our prosecutors and families,” the President ordered.

Moreover, the Chief Executive appealed to the prosecutors to continue their unwavering support to the government’s reforms in the Department of Justice (DOJ) and National Prosecution Service.

He said that this is significant in regaining the Filipinos’ trust and confidence in the country’s justice system.

“With the valuable help of the Prosecutors’ League, I am confident that we can further strengthen, improve, and reform the entire National Prosecution Service so that you may all become efficient, credible, impartial, and incorruptible upon whom our people may depend on whenever they feel wronged or aggrieved,” President Duterte stated.
