President Rodrigo Roa Duterte renewed his administration’s commitment and efforts in attaining lasting peace and progress in the whole country, especially in Mindanao, as he visited the Province of Basilan for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Isabela City Gymnasium.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive expressed his admiration and love for the people of Basilan, known as Yakans, and stressed that he came to the province to plead for peace. He reiterated that if violence and rebellion continue to prevail in the region, it would prevent the country from growing.

“Kasi po mahihirapan kaming makipag-away ng kapwa naming Pilipino. Ayaw ko talaga sa totoo lang,” President Duterte emphasized.

He called on everyone to continue being partners for change and in nation building to achieve meaningful and dignified lives for all Filipinos.

Furthermore, President Duterte renewed his commitment in providing development for the Province of Basilan in terms of infrastructure and health facilities.

He said that by the end of the year, a hospital would be built in cooperation with the local government unit (LGU) of Isabela City. Likewise, the Department of Health (DOH) is coordinating with the provincial government of Basilan for the upgrade of health facilities in the province.

Apart from this, he promised the construction of an airport and train transit.
