“I am glad to join you today as we break ground on two secondary school facilities that will soon rise here in the province of Bulacan,” said President Rodrigo Roa Duterte after leading the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Gen. Gregorio Del Pilar National High School held at Barangay Sta. Ana in Bulakan, Bulacan.
Apart from the groundbreaking, President Duterte also assessed a miniature model of the proposed establishment of the Pandi National High School (Virginia Ramirez-Cruz High School) extension buildings that was presented by Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones.
In his keynote address, the Chief Executive conveyed that the construction of both school buildings serves as a testament of the government’s commitment to invest in the potential of the Filipino youth. “These structures will promote their well-being, nurture their dreams, and become a breeding ground for future leaders of our country,” he said.
The soon-to-rise Gen. Gregorio Del Pilar National High School shall be composed of two (2) units of four-storey school buildings with a total of 60 classrooms expected to accommodate over 2,300 students. Construction is targeted to end by November 2019.
On the other hand, the Pandi National High School (Virginia Ramirez-Cruz High School) extension shall be established on a 19,296-square meter land at Barangay Siling Bata in the municipality of Pandi, Bulacan. It shall be composed of four (4) units of four-storey school buildings that would house over 80 classrooms and is set to be complete by October this year.
“Education is indeed the most valuable gift that we can leave behind to the succeeding generations. This is why I have been firm in my stand that no Filipino youth should ever be denied access to high quality education, whatever circumstances they may be in,” President Duterte added.
Furthermore, the Chief Executive reiterated the government’s commitment to raise the wages of public school teachers, as he called for a meeting with them together with DepEd Secretary Briones.
“I am willing to strike a deal in the presence of Secretary Briones sa mga maestra. You can choose the date, January, bilisan lang ninyo then we can make a — even an agreement or manifesto or choose whatever kind of document itself. Kayo ang isusunod ko this year,” President Duterte emphasized.
