With a goal to give the uniformed personnel an affordable and life-long housing unit, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the initial awarding of 500 housing units to the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) in a ceremony at the Scout Ranger Ville in San Miguel, Bulacan.

In an inspection briefing conducted by National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Secretary General Marcelino Escalada, Jr., the Commander-in-Chief assessed a model house wherein he was joined by HUDCC Chairman and Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario.

“Owning a house has always been a dream of every Filipino.  I urge every beneficiary of this housing program to take good care of these units,” President Duterte said in his keynote speech after the ceremonial turnover.

The awarded units form part of the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) Housing Program, which was unveiled in a groundbreaking ceremony in 2017.  Out of its 1000-unit target, 600 houses were already constructed, while the rest are to be completed by May next year.

According to the NHA, the original appraised value of one housing unit costs around PhP 1.5 million, but the government was able to reduce its price to only PhP 944,000 per unit for the recipients.  The price was further decreased to PhP 844,000 as ordered by President Duterte, benefiting both the military and their dependents.

“May this project further inspire you to serve your nation, deepen your patriotism and foster your sense of family and community,” the President ended.

Several housing projects are also being constructed simultaneously in Davao, Tarlac, Negros Occidental, Zamboanga, Baguio, and other provinces across the nation.
