President Rodrigo Roa Duterte underscored the government’s efforts in safeguarding the welfare and safety of Filipino children as he led the awarding ceremonies for the 2017 Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities (PACFMC) at the Malacañan Palace.

In his remarks, President Duterte vowed that his administration is continuing its fight against wrongdoings in the country such as abuse, violence, criminality, and illegal drugs which he considers a ‘threat’ to the children’s safety and well-being.

“Together, let us strengthen our ties and build new alliances in order to create a safe, enabling, and child-friendly environment for the succeeding generations of Filipino,” he added.

He also discussed the country’s problem in providing healthcare for the children due to lack of funds. But he gave his assurance that the government is doing its part to address the issue.

“We endeavored to pass a law that would give them free medical attention in hospitals. We have established the Malasakit thing all over to give priority to those who are urgently in need of medical attention,” President Duterte said.

The PACFMC is spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC). It forms part of the government’s measure to give recognition to the efforts of local government units (LGUs) in promoting the welfare and rights of children.

The LGUs of Salay, Misamis Oriental, Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya, Tagaytay City, Cavite, Dagupan City, and Mandaluyong City were among the awardees this year.
