President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China witnessed the exchange of several agreements between the two nations as the Chinese leader conducted a State Visit to the Republic of the Philippines.

This is the first time that a Chinese President visited the Philippines after 13 years.

A total of 25 agreements between the two nations were exchanged, which focused on the fields of Trade and Industry, Banking and Finance, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Cultural Exchanges, and Education among others.

In their joint press statements, President Duterte expressed his gratitude for the growing strength in terms of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and China. He noted that President Xi’s visit is an opportunity to further develop mutual efforts of both countries in ensuring the well-being of the people, and peace and stability in the region.

“I am pleased with the current positive momentum of the Philippines-China relations. There is a deepening trust and confidence between our governments, and we have greatly increased dialogue and interaction on many levels,” the Philippine leader affirmed.

Likewise, President Xi conveyed that his meeting with President Duterte was in-depth and productive, saying that they both agreed to elevate the two nations’ relationship as one comprehensive and strategic cooperation.

“This vision charts a clear course for China-Philippines relations and it sends a strong message to the world that our two countries are partners in seeking common development,” the Chinese leader said.
