Ambassador Bienvenido Tejano is the 5th and current Philippine Ambassador to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The Ambassador spoke of the significance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s participation to the 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting and highlighted the success of the Philippines – PNG Rice Demonstration Farm, a concrete outcome of the Chief Executive’s bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill at the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang City, Vietnam.
He also emphasized the growing people-to-people relationship between the Philippines and PNG, citing that almost 40,000 Filipino expatriates consider PNG as their second home.
Ambassador Tejano holds a doctoral degree in Public Service (Honoris Causa) and a masteral degree in Public Health from the Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP), and a masteral degree in Health Science from the Philippine Union College (PUC). He is the founder of the Total Health Mission Foundation, Inc. and has chaired the Inter-Agency Committee on Drug Abuse, Prevention and Education of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), and the Religious Organizations for the Coalition of Smoke-Free Philippines.
His first appointment as Philippine Ambassador to PNG was in 1998-2005, followed by his posting as Ambassador to New Zealand in 2006-2011. He was reappointed as the Philippines’ envoy to PNG in 2011.
Ambassador Tejano is a native of Manapas, Northern Samar and married to Dr. Linalyn Lumalang of Naujan, Oriental Mindoro. They are blessed with four children namely, Biena Lynn, Francis John, Ronn Micheal, and Maria Luisa Barbara.
