President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with his fellow leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member Countries, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and the ASEAN on Economic Cooperation.

The signed agreement focuses on the promotion of the “economic cooperation and collaboration” between ASEAN and ECC that further expands trade and investment between the two organizations.

It also aims to reinforce ASEAN and Eurasian Economic Union’s (EAEU) plan to cooperate “within their respective competencies such as in the area of customs procedure and trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical regulations, e-commerce, trade in services and investments, business development, primarily for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and, other areas to be mutually agreed upon by the participants”.

The Eurasian Economic Union is a union of five states in central and northern Eurasia composed of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

ASEAN Secretary General Dato Lim Jock Hoi and EEC Chairman of the Board Tigran Sargsyan signed the MOU.
