Considered as the most iconic structure in Papua New Guinea, the National Parliament House holds the governmental legislature proceedings and signifies the legislative power of its people since the country’s independence in 1975.
The building of the structure commenced in 1980 and was completed and inaugurated by Britain’s Prince Charles (eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II) in 1984.

Designed to reflect the traditional architecture of Papua New Guinea, the National Parliament House is decorated with traditional carvings and artwork depicting the rich heritage of almost a thousand tribes that joined together as one nation.
