President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, together with the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member Countries and Premiere Li Keqiang of the People’s Republic of China, posed for a family photo during the 21st ASEAN-China Summit held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minster Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore stated that ASEAN and China share a strong, substantial and mutually beneficial relationship as the latter’s top trading partner for eight consecutive years, and that both parties share a mutual trust and understanding that have managed their differences peacefully.
He also conveyed that they have completed the mutual defense cooperation with the culmination of the ASEAN-China Maritime Exercises last month — adding that ASEAN and China have laid down strong foundations for the continued advancement of their strategic partnership.
He further stressed that the ASEAN will be adopting the ASEAN-China’s strategic partnership vision, which will chart the direction of their future cooperation.
The Singaporean Prime Minister also expressed his confidence in the Philippines as country coordinator of the ASEAN-China relations that would bring the partnership to greater heights.
