This two-storey structure resembling a “Lakatoi Sail” (a traditional sailing watercraft of Papua New Guinea) was built on a reclaimed land foreshore of Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. It is set to host the 26th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) as well as the dialogue with APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

Its interior also features a unique Papua New Guinea experience using a contemporary palette, giving identity to different functional spaces of the structure inspired by cultural and traditional materials of the region: shell, clay, timber, and metal.

Conrad Gargett, in collaboration with Jim Fitzpatrick Architects, the design architect and design director, has been commissioned for the documentation and delivery of APEC Haus. Global Constructions built the building at a cost of 120 million Kina (US$ 400 million).

PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill foresees that the APEC Haus will be used as a world-class museum aside from its function and conference spaces after the 2018 APEC AELM, and will help the future Papuan children know the history of their country and other neighboring countries.
