President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke before the local chief executives during the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Luzon Island Cluster Conference 2018 at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang, Davao City.
“As a former Mayor myself, I understand the difficulties you are facing as you fulfill your mandate. That is why, I’m striving to provide our local governments the capability to address these difficulties through reforms and harness the potential of local businesses and promote good governance, especially at the local level,” President Duterte said in his message.
The LMP is an association with 82 provincial chapter presidents from 1,489 municipalities nationwide. It was created by virtue of Republic Act (RA) 7160 also known as the Local Government Code of 1991, for the primary purpose of discussing and setting the issues affecting municipal government administration through proper and legal means.
The three-day event from October 22-24, 2018 centers on the theme, ‘Kaunlaran ng Bansa, sa Bayan Nagmumula,’ designed to refocus attention on the needs of the municipalities in the Luzon region.
The conference was attended by 327 local chief executives from the region of Luzon.
