Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano participated in the High-Level Side Event on Migration: ‘Road to Marrakech’ at the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the UN Headquarters, New York.

The event aims to “mobilize Member States and other concerned actors” to come to Marrakech, Morocco on December 10-11, 2018 and adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (Global Compact) – “ the first global agreement designed to better manage international migration in all its dimensions, for the benefit of all Member States and communities, and with the rights of all migrants at the fore.”

“Allow us Filipinos to take this opportunity to thank all nations and all peoples, to you who are seated in front, who made this great endeavor a reality; who committed, who contributed much for this to become a reality. Truly, ten million Filipinos abroad will not only benefit by this Global Compact, but it is a dream come true for Filipinos to now experience the love of their neighbor,” Secretary Cayetano emphasized in his statement.

The Philippines is one of the co-sponsors of the high-level side event.
