President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administered the oath-taking of the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines Teresita Leonardo – De Castro in a ceremony held at the Malacanan Palace.

Justice De Castro is the 24th Chief Justice of the Philippines. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Law at the University of the Philippines, where she was at the top of her class in 1968 and 1972.

She first worked as an Associate Justice in the Supreme Court in 2007. Her 45 years of public service brought her to different government positions, which included being a Legal/Judicial Assistant for the late Chief Justice Fred Ruiz Castro, Assistant Chief State Counsel for the Department of Justice (DOJ) in 1978, and as an international and peace negotiator during the administrations of Presidents Corazon C. Aquino and Fidel V. Ramos.
