Known as one of the major pilgrimage centers for Christians all over the world, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre inside the Old City in Jerusalem is acknowledged as the place of crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.

Right inside the entrance of the Church is the Stone of the Unction (Anointing), a slab of stone where the body of Jesus was laid after being removed from the crucifix prior to his burial. At the right side of the stone are stairs leading to the upper portion of the Church which is believed to be the exact spot where Jesus was crucified, also known as the Golgotha or ‘the place of the skull’ – the most lavishly designed station. At the left side of the Stone of Unction is the burial site, a structure covered by a Rotunda. The wood and stone structures at the center of the Rotunda has preserved the grave for more than 300 years.

Located between Suq Khan e-Zeit and Christian Quarter Road, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is considered as one of Jerusalem’s major landmarks that draws a big throng of pilgrims and visitors up to now.
