President Rodrigo Roa Duterte vowed to provide housing opportunities when he visited the families who lost their homes after a fire incident in Barangay Labuan, Zamboanga City.
The President told the residents staying at the Ramon Enriquez High School that his office would tap Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Chair Eduardo del Rosario to assess the proper relocation area and build houses for the affected community, using similar design of the constructed houses in Marawi City.
“I’ll try if I can ask Del Rosario, General, ‘yung sa HUDCC ‘yung sa housing to fly sometime this week and to make an assessment tapos… Kay parang ‘yung bahay sa Marawi ‘yung ginawa ko sa mga kapatid natin doon okay na ‘yon? Okay ‘yon,” he said.
President Duterte also urged for the resumption of the barter trade, saying that the practice could help boost the local economy and promote peace for those living in the area.
“Ang sinabi ko buksan ko uli ang barter trade para sa inyo…. kaya kung ako ang maglagay ng barter trade, sundin lang ninyo kung ano ‘yung patakaran ng gobyerno, wala na kayong problema kailanman. Ganun lang ‘yan eh,” he said.
“Yung barter trade I think will help us a little bit para mabuhay kasi ‘yon lang ang alam ng mga kapatid ko kayong mga Muslim,” he added.
Aside from the relief assistance, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) handed out financial assistance to aid the residents in their rehabilitation.
