President Rodrigo Roa Duterte affirmed his support to the punong barangays (village chiefs) of Central Luzon as he called on them to continue being passionate and dedicated public servants of the country.
The President emphasized this as he led the oath-taking of the newly elected barangay captains of Region III in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, where he thanked the officials for accepting the challenge of public service.
In his speech, President Duterte expressed his trust to the new barangay officials in upholding excellence, accountability, and transparency in the community.
“Keep in mind that you are operating within the context of a nation. Let us set aside our personal interest as we selflessly and tirelessly fulfill the duties and responsibilities that come with our positions,” the President said.
He also encouraged the barangay officials to continue ensuring the implementation of the administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, particularly the establishment of their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council to control the said problem in the barangay level.
President Duterte urged them to work closely with the national government in creating effective solutions to address the needs of the Filipino people, as well as in restoring the faith and confidence of the citizens in their leaders’ and institutions’ capacities to serve.
“I have the greatest trust in the experience and ability that each one of you possess. Together, let us use this opportunity to bring valuable and meaningful reforms in our bureaucracy so that we can get rid of society’s ills and usher in real and lasting change for the benefit of the people,” the Chief Executive said.
