President Rodrigo Roa Duterte lauded the efforts of the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Aboitiz Power Corporation for making possible the completion of the 420-megawatt (MW) Pagbilao 3 Unit Power Project during his speech on the inauguration of the power facility at Barangay Ibabang Pulo in Pagbilao, Quezon province.

“This event reaffirms not only the government’s commitment to empower our citizens into proactive agents of social transformation, but also the private sector’s crucial role in augmenting our local industries,” President Duterte said.

The coal-fired generating facility and merchant power plant is poised to improve and stabilize energy supply in the Luzon grid. The construction of the power facility started on December 2014 at a cost of US$976 million.

“The opening of this [420]-megawatt plant will provide employment and business opportunities to the residents of Quezon. Through its distribution of reliable and affordable electricity, it will also complement our programs and policies that will lay the foundations of a comfortable and productive life for all,” the President added.

“I encourage our private partners to find viable and sustainable solutions that will deliver reliable and inexpensive electricity to our homes and industries. It is my hope that you will continue to introduce technological breakthroughs and advancements that will ensure cleaner power generation facilities,” he urged.

President Duterte also reiterated that his administration has been clear about safeguarding the environment for future generations by having more compliant companies and power plants that prevent damage and reduce emission from harmful products in the years to come.

During the program, the President was accompanied by DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Aboitiz Power Corporation Chair Erramon Aboitiz, Pagbilao Energy Corporation President John Alcordo, and Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go, among others.
