President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the 2nd Philippine Construction Congress, which coincided with The Anti-Corruption Summit 2017, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

In his speech, the President reminded the importance of infrastructure in nation building. “Let us keep in mind that we are not just building infrastructure for our present-day use. What we are building are infrastructure that will serve as the solid foundation of a nation upon which future generations of Filipinos will lean on. I ask each of you to join me as we build this foundation not just for our sake, but for the sake of our country’s future,” the President said.

He also called to amend the Constitution to curb the prevalence of corruption in government, saying, “Do not extend the powers of anybody there, but rather restrict it and come up with a certain set of rules para matapos na itong corruption.”

Organized by the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP), an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and in partnership with the Philippine Constructors Association (PCA), the annual event was held to ‘formulate the overall strategic direction of the country’s construction industry.’

For this year, the event outlined the Philippine Construction Industry Roadmap for ‎‎‎2017-2022, in accordance with the government’s Philippine Development Plan ‎‎‎2017-2022, AmBisyon Natin 2040, and the country’s biggest infrastructure plan – the ‘Build, Build, Build!’
