President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the 67th Founding Anniversary of the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) with the theme, “Scout Rangers: Proud of Our History, Confident of Our Future,” at the Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan.

During his speech, the President officially announced the government’s cessation of peace talks with the CPP-NPA-NDF (Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front) as the latter, based on his analysis, demands of a coalition government.

“I just signed proclamation terminating the talks in Norway between the Communist Party of the Philippines-NDF-NPA with the government. As it was shaping up during our talks, I already noticed the trend of the thoughts of the other side. And when I summed it all, reading from all previous working papers, it would sound like a coalition government. That’s why I said in the previous days, I cannot give you what I do not own. And certainly, a coalition government with the Republic of the Philippines is pure nonsense,” he said.

During the anniversary celebration, the Commander-in-Chief took time to visit the gallery clad with the portraits of the fallen Scout Rangers who fought in Marawi City. He also officiated a ceremonial awarding of the Order of Lapu-Lapu to the officers and personnel deployed in Marawi City, and the presentation of other Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) awards.

“Our people depend on the military and the government to give them the stable, orderly, and prosperous nation we desire for so long. So let us remain united as we continue to combat the persistent threats of terrorism, extremism, and lawlessness. Let us stand firm and resolute as we work hand in hand for lasting peace and meaningful change in our country. Again, happy anniversary to the First Scout Ranger Regiment. Mabuhay kayong lahat!” he said.

In the event, FSRR Commander BGen. Glen Paje presented a Scout Ranger’s Badge to the President.

“This year is a significant milestone in our history for we have made our presence felt during the time when it mattered most. I refer to the contributions, the achievements, and heroism of the gallant Scout Rangers during the liberation of Marawi,” BGen. Paje said.
