President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the 65th General Assembly of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) at the Shangri-La at the Fort, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig.
Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni L. Cayetano encouraged her fellow executives in her welcome remarks to maximize the opportunities brought by the recently concluded 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits chaired by the Philippines.
“The ASEAN Summit led to the assurance of various projects such as the Metro Manila Subway deal and the enhanced defense ties with Japan, and the signing of various trade and business agreements that will surely open countless opportunities for our constituents,” Mayor Cayetano said.
One of the highlights of the gathering is a presentation of the 2017 Special Report of the LCP by its National President, Mayor Edgardo D. Pamintuan of Angeles City, Pampanga. This covers the organization’s initiatives and accomplishments from July 23, 2016 up to July 31, 2017 in support of President Duterte’s socio-economic agenda. The Mayor likewise congratulated the President for the conclusion of the conflict in Marawi City.
The general assembly of LCP coincides with its Joint 63rd National Executive Board Meeting. Among the topics that were discussed are federalism, Public-Private Partnership (PPP), water and waste management, and the public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.
The LCP was created on July 25, 1987 through Executive Order No. 262 that protects the interests of cities in the country.
