President Rodrigo Roa Duterte delivered the keynote speech during the 120th founding anniversary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
In his message, he reiterated his oath of office as President and vowed to protect the Filipino people and defend the Republic.
“You know, I am a President, I build a nation… But I enforce all the laws of the land, and I have to enforce it even if it is not to your liking… but because I love my country, more than anybody else, tinanggap ko ‘yung challenge na ‘yan, even ‘yung Tanodbayan where I have to travel around Mindanao most of the time,” President Duterte said.
“My oath of office says to… obey the Constitution and enforce the laws of the land. It does not exempt, ‘except those who are poor,’” he added.
The President also mentioned his campaign against illegal drugs and corruption in the government. He said he is willing to step down as President if proven that he has ill-gotten wealth.
With the theme, “Grace and Justice: 120 Years of Service to the Filipino People,” the DOJ continues in upholding its mandate to serve as the government’s prosecution arm and administers the government’s criminal justice system by investigating crimes, prosecuting offenders, and overseeing the correctional system.
