President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined the festivity and spoke before the people of Digos City during the 17th Araw ng Digos celebration in Davao del Sur.
The municipality of Digos was formally converted into a component city of Davao del Sur on September 8, 2000 through House Bill No. 5672 filed on November 1998 that eventually led to the drafting of Republic Act 8798. Digos City is currently a second-class city and the capital of Davao del Sur province.
The week-long celebration had the theme, ‘Sustaining the Gains at 17’, that commemorated the fruitful years of development in the city.
In his message, President Duterte shared his hopes for the city by saying, “I express my warmest greetings to all of you in this remarkable milestone in Digos City’s history. This festivity signifies the collective aspirations for a continuing progress of your locality… I commend your solidarity and cooperation in the crucial task of fostering sustainable development… May this joyous celebration invigorate the good people of Digos to work harder as you strive to pass the gains of the cityhood in the past seventeen years.”
