President Benigno S. Aquino III led the distribution of family food packs to 672 families temporarily housed at Kabisig Elementary School in Cainta after the torrential rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon flooded the municipality.

In his message, President Aquino assured the residents that the government is keen on finding full preventive measures against flooding. He said that they are now mapping out long-term solutions to this problem by building a 100-kilometer dike around the Laguna Lake and will fully enforce the National Greening Program. He also sought the full support of communities living in flood-prone areas to relocate their houses especially those informal settlers living near the bridges and dikes. He said that he will find alternative measures, like transportation assistance to work for those who will be relocated.

According to reports gathered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), all seven barangays were affected by the flooding with 5,679 affected families or 28,344 individuals. They have already provided P500,024.28 worth of food and non-food items to all 42 evacuation sites.

Cainta holds the rank as the second most populous municipality in the Philippines and with the most number of river and streams in the province of Rizal.
