August 2, 2017
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined the officials and employees of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) as the agency celebrated its 113th founding anniversary at the BIR National Office in Diliman, Quezon City.
The BIR adopted its tax campaign theme for this year, ‘Tunay na Pagbabago, Para sa Bayan,’ in its anniversary celebration.
In his message, President Duterte conveyed his appreciation to the BIR for its “big help to the government” and assured its personnel that the tax collection “will go to the nation” in order to benefit the Filipino people.
Even before delivering his speech, the President stood up and saluted the agency for heeding his call of real change that resulted to improved services and increased tax collection to finance the Marawi City rehabilitation. “Sumasaludo ako sa impressive performance ng BIR,” he said after watching the report presentation of BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay.
The BIR collects almost 80% of the revenues needed by the government to fund various projects for economic and social development. It is targeting to collect PhP 1.829 trillion, an increase from its previous collection of PhP 1.643 trillion from July 2016 – June 2017.
