President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the 26th anniversary celebration of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and led the awarding of plaques to outstanding BJMP personnel and units at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
In his statement, the President assured the personnel of BJMP that he would soon address their concerns and institute reforms after the rebuilding of Marawi City.
“Kayo sa trabaho, I will take care of you, may nakita na kasi ako pera pero nire- reserba ko … on the third year kayo naman ang pakialaman ko,” he said.
He also gave his word that there would be no corruption during his term and that as President, he would see to it that everything is fair and legal as they perform their duties for the country.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, BJMP Chief J/Dir. Serafin Barretto Jr., Department of Interior and Local Government Officer-in-Charge Catalino Cuy and Philippine National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa joined the President during the event.
This year’s celebration showcased the bureau’s accomplishments with the theme, “Sustinidong Paglilinis ng Bilangguan Tungo sa Hamong Pagbabago sa Ating Lipunan”.
BJMP was created pursuant to section 60 of Republic Act 6975, otherwise known as the Department of Interior and Local Government Act of 1990. It has now 11,720 personnel, which is only 20.52% of the ideal manpower needs of BJMP, exercising jurisdiction over 175 district jails, 94 city jails and 128 municipal jails.
