President Rodrigo Roa Duterte spoke with the bereaved families and friends of former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani during her wake at La Funeraria Paz, Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City.

President Duterte expressed his condolences with the brother of Senator Shahani, former President Fidel Ramos, and with the former senator’s offsprings Ranjit Shahani, Chanda Shahani and Lila Shahani.

The President was accompanied in the event by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar and Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana among other high-ranking government officials.

Former Senator Ramos-Shahani was a steadfast defender of women rights as well as Philippine sovereignty. She was elected as senator in 1987, was previously a Philippine ambassador to Australia, served as Secretary-General of the World Conference on the United Nations Decade of Women in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985 and became the deputy minister for Philippine Affairs after the 1986 EDSA Revolution.
