President Rodrigo Duterte met with the top executives of Thai’s biggest agro-industrial and food conglomerate in the Asia Pacific region private company, the Chaoroenn Pokphand Foods Public Company (CPFC), Limited during his official visit in Bangkok, Thailand.

Led by its senior chairman Dhanin Chearavanont, the group received the President’s assurance that he would personally see to it that their business operations in the Philippines are easier.

According to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol, CPFC is interested to invest worth US$2 billion dollars in agriculture in the Philippines and they need about 60,000 hectares for planting.

“We are proposing that this be done through contract farming and this will allow our corn farmers access to market. The reason they want to set up facility in the Philippines is the fact that we are one of the very few countries in the world which does not have foot and mouth disease and we don’t have problems with bird flu so that is the prime motivation,” said Sec. Piñol.

Sec. Piñol also announced that the CPFC chairman Dhanin Chearavanont contributed worth P10 million pesos for rural development.

Also present during the call are chief executive officer Suphachai Chearavanont, chairman of the executive committees Adirek Sripratak, CP Foods Philippines Corporation vice chairman Sakil Cheewacoset and aquaculture business chief operating officer Dr. Sujint Thannasart.

Founded in 1921, the company established CPF Philippines Corporation in 2007. It is a wholly owned subsidiary engaged in shrimp hatchery operations. In January 2013, CPFPC started its feed mill operations for aquatic feeds in Samal, Bataan and shrimp hatchery operations last year in General Santos City.
