President Rodrigo Roa Duterte consoled the bereaved families of the slain troopers, Cpl. Marzon Morales and Pvt. Oshin Rosala, in his wake visit at Camp BGen. Edilberto Evangelista of the Philippine Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) in Cagayan de Oro City.

During his visit, the President conferred the Bronze Spearhead Device Medal to the killed soldiers. He took time to talk with the grieving families and offered financial assistance to them. He also vowed to give educational assistance to the children of Cpl. Morales and a job to his wife. Likewise, the Commander-in-Chief gave his assurance that a job will be provided to the parents of Pvt. Rosala.

Cpl. Morales and Pvt. Rosala belonged to the 58th Infantry Battalion (58IB) and were killed after a series of encounters with the New People’s Army (NPA) at the vicinity of Barangay Kaulayanan in Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental on February 28, 2017. Along with the two soldiers, four other troopers from 58IB were wounded and currently admitted at the Camp BGen. Edilberto Evangelista Station Hospital.
