President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is scheduled to make his debut as the Philippines’ newly elected president in the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru on November 19-20, 2016.

Anchored on the Philippine’s 2015 APEC agenda, Peru will carry this year’s theme, “Quality Growth and Human Development,” highlighting several APEC priorities:
1) advancing regional economic integration and quality growth; 2) enhancing the regional food market; 3) towards the modernization of micro, small and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) in the Asia-Pacific, and; 4) developing human capital.

This is the second time Peru will be hosting the APEC Summit, having hosted the event back in 2008.

Since its establishment in 1989 with the Philippines as one of the founding members alongside Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and the United States of America, the APEC members have since grown to 21 economies with the inclusion of China; Hong Kong, China; Chinese Taipei; Mexico; Papua New Guinea; Chile; Peru; Russia and Viet Nam.
