President Rodrigo Roa Duterte hosted a merienda cena for the survivors of the Roxas night market bombing in Davao City last September 2, which left at least 14 people killed.

Around 70 Davaoeños comprising the victims and their families gathered in Matina Enclaves to meet with the President. In his message, President Duterte promised to extend financial assistance worth PhP 250,000 to the survivors, as well as to the families of those who died in the bombing. He added that if the financial assistance comes short, the victims could seek further help to the local government through his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Likewise, President Duterte affirmed his stand against fighting criminality, saying he would suppress corruption, terror threats, and illegal drugs in the country despite thousands of investigations from various bodies or organizations. According to the President, if he does not order such actions to eradicate criminality, it would affect the next generation of Filipinos.

“Because I have the promise to the people of the Philippines who elected me President and gave me a whopping majority of six million votes. Wala akong pakialam, resolbahin natin itong problema na ito,” President Duterte stressed.
