Central Jakarta
September 5, 2016

Seeming like the Philippines’ “Welcome Rotonda” in Manila is the Bundaran HI, a roundabout strategically located in the heart of Central Jakarta. Literally translated as “Hotel Indonesia Roundabout” in Bahasa Indonesia, the roundabout is called as such due to its proximity to Hotel Indonesia.

The roundabout has a monument known as the Selamat Datang Monument, created by sculptor Edhi Sunarso in 1962 and is considered one of the historical landmarks in the entire capital city of Jakarta.

Bundara HI’s intersections include Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Sultan Syahrir, and Jalan Kebon Kacang. Right in the center of Jakarta’s main avenue is Jalan M.H. Thamrin. It is the gateway for tourist arrivals in Central Jakarta, surrounded by big hotels and high-end shopping malls.
