President Rodrigo Roa Duterte visited the wake of the killed-in-action (KIA) police officer PO1 Gary Cabaguing in his residence at Brgy. San Pablo, Catbalogan City, Samar.

Upon his arrival, the President took time to condole and talk to Abigail Cabaguing, wife of the 32-year-old slain officer. Cradling her two-year-old son, Abigail received an envelope with a check worth PhP 250,000 from the President’s social fund as preliminary assistance aside from the educational support he had vowed for the Cabaguing children.

President Duterte said that Abigail, along with other widows of slain military and police personnel, will be automatically enrolled in Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). Moreover, he talked to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Judy Batulan during the visit to assist the wife for a stable job.

“Should you have a problem, just talk to us… Tawagan mo lang ako,” he said to Abigail.

After the talk, President Duterte had a photo opportunity with Cabaguing’s parents, Delfina and Rafael, and his wife and two children: the nine-year-old Maria Gareth Gail and the two-year-old Brent Goran.

Cabaguing, a member of Samar Provincial Public Safety Company-Special Weapons and Tactics (PPSC-SWAT) Team, was killed while serving a warrant of arrest to a known drug suspect, Ernesto Gonzales, in Marabut, Samar on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

After the wake visit, the President held a press briefing in which he underscored that the anti-drug campaign in the country is not only a police matter but war waged against greed.

“Not every Filipino has given a chance to die for the country. Your husband has died for the country,” the President said to Abigail before concluding the press briefing.
