Launching of the Implementing Phase of the
Mindanao Peace Agreements

between the GPH and the MILF

Members of the implementing panels from the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) formally re-launches the implementing phase of the signed Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 13-14, 2016.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza and MILF Chair Al Haj Murad Ebrahim lead the ceremonial launching followed by formal talks between the two newly formed implementing panels.

The formal meetings are the first under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who vowed to correct historical injustices and honor all signed agreements made between the GPH and the MILF. The GPH’s implementing phase is anchored on President Duterte’s Peace and Development Roadmap.

Topics to be discussed in the meetings include the formation of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), a body tasked to draft the new enabling law, as well as expand its member’s representation with the inclusion of leaders from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Sultanates, and the Lumads.

Leading the GPH’s implementing panel is Ms. Irene Santiago, joined by Undersecretary Nabil Tan, Undersecretary Diosita Andot, Assistant Secretary Dikson Hermoso and Assistant Secretary Rolando Asuncion.

The MILF implementing panel is headed by MILF Chief Negotiator Mohagler Iqbal joined by Professor Abhoud Syed Lingga, Abdulla Camlian, Said Shiek and Timuay Melanio Ulama.
