Legazpi City, Albay
5 May 2016
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the unveiling of marker and inspection of the Tibu Pumping Station in Legazpi City, Albay.
Aimed at improving the drainage system of the city that could further boost the city’s economy, the Tibu Pumping Station is expected to keep sea water in the barangays of San Roque and Bonot from encroaching inland while discharging run-off storm waters directly to the sea.
Started in 2013, the project was funded with a total amount of PhP 335 million. It has three huge pumps –- Pump No. 1 will operate at 1.8-meters water level; Pump No. 2 will be activated if water level will not subside below 1.55 meters after 20 to 30 minutes operation; and Pump No. 3 will serve as back-up and will operate only when necessary.
It also includes the provision of electro-mechanical works, electrical works, powerhouse structure, pumping station structure, floodgate structure, discharge channel, land development, apron extension, river control retaining wall, perimeter fence, bridge approaches, main gate, and stone masonry.
The realization of the project was made possible through the approval of funding made in 2012 by President Aquino.
Currently, Legazpi is known by travellers as the “City of Fun and Adventure,” not only for the beauty of Mayon Volcano but also for the various man-made and natural ecotourism attractions developed by the local government.
