President Benigno S. Aquino III visited the community of Digos City in Davao del Sur as he reported the improvements of the province in terms of infrastructure, social welfare, health, and education.
Speaking before thousands of local residents in Davao del Sur Coliseum, the President expressed his contentment over the positive changes that the province has achieved under his administration.
On the infrastructure sector, the President said that from 2010 up to 2016, a total of PhP 67.32 billion was allotted to Davao del Sur to fund major bridge and road projects. This is higher compared to the PhP 12.76 billion budget by the previous administration. Likewise, PhP 302.15 billion was allotted to further improve infrastructure projects in Mindanao.
On social welfare, a total of 62,857 households benefitted from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Mindanao, including Davao del Sur. This number forms part of the 4.6 million household beneficiaries in the whole country.
On the health sector, 2.38 million residents of Davao del Sur benefitted from PhilHealth, comprising the 4.6 million Filipinos who were assisted by the said health insurance coverage. Moreover, the government continues to improve health facilities across the province by giving a budget of PhP 136.31 million courtesy of the Department of Health (DOH).
In terms of education, more than 4,000 classrooms were provided across Davao del Sur before the start of the school year this June. This comprises the 185,000 classrooms that were built during the administration of President Aquino.
