President Benigno S. Aquino III led the ceremonial switch-on for the electrification of the 32,688 sitios nationwide under the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) held in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental.

In his remarks, President Aquino mentioned that government was able to cut the electrification budget from the initial estimate of PhP 1 million per sitio to only PhP 600,000. Among the said sitios, 11,670 are in Luzon; 10,218 in Visayas; and 10,800 in Mindanao.

In Misamis Oriental, the sitio of Sampaguita in the municipality of Lugait is the 32,441st sitio to be given electricity by the SEP.

President Aquino added that new power plants await the provinces in Mindanao in the coming months of May, June, July and October.

Joining the President during the event were Energy (DOE) Secretary Zenaida “Naidi” Monsada and National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Edita Bueno.
