President Benigno S. Aquino III underscored various government programs for the development of Misamis Oriental province when he met with the local leaders and residents of Cagayan de Oro City.
In his speech, President Aquino cited a total of PhP 24.14 billion worth of infrastructure projects allotted for the province from 2011 to 2016, including national roads, bridges, airports and seaports, and flood control projects.
In support of local agriculture, PhP 564.02 million worth of farm-to-market roads and PhP 651.21 million worth of irrigation system were built in the province, aside from the acquisition of production and post-harvest machineries and equipment costing PhP 46.9 million, as well as the implementation of intercropping in 21 sites amounting to PhP 10.17 million.
The government also improved the health services for the Misamisnons through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program. A total of PhP 420.65 million was provided to two barangay health stations, 26 rural health units and urban health centers, and 11 hospitals. The said budget also included the upgrading of the Northern Mindanao Medical Center facilities in Cagayan de Oro City.
For the education sector, 3,343 classrooms were built for the school children of Misamis Oriental. Likewise, for technical vocational studies, President Aquino reported that there are at least 21,300 Training for Work Scholarship Program graduates in the province, belonging to the nine million technical vocational graduates in the country.
President Aquino added that as part of government’s continuing goal to alleviate poverty in the country, Misamis Oriental also holds a big coverage of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, with 72,982 member households from the previous number of 6,389.
As the 2016 national election approaches, President Aquino called on the event participants to use their rights and vote wisely for the rightful leaders who will continue the positive reforms of the administration.
