President Benigno S. Aquino III met with the local government officials and residents of Cebu.
In his remarks, President Aquino shared a few of the government’s notable contributions and accomplishments for the development of the province, including the Mactan Cebu International Airport New Passenger Terminal Building, which will upgrade the airport’s passenger capacity from 4.5 million to 15 million every year.
Also among the completed infrastructure projects were the underpass in the Channel 2 and Viaduct sections of the South Coastal Road on January 2016, and the rehabilitation of Sergio Osmeña Boulevard on July 2015 and Ouano Avenue on June 2013.
The President also mentioned the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project, the first such BRT project in the country, which has been approved and is already at the detailed engineering design stage. Once construction is finished by July 2018, it will make transportation in the province more convenient.
Moreover, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has allotted P856.14 million for the airport, ports and mass transit in Cebu. For the agriculture sector, P1.61 billion was provided for irrigation and farm-to-market roads.
In total, P32 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Cebu were given since 2011, which included the construction of several flood control projects, health facilities and school buildings.
