Underscoring the crucial role of every local government unit (LGU) in nation-building and inclusive growth, President Benigno S. Aquino III acknowledged and expressed his gratitude to all the members of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in its annual general assembly.
Bearing the theme “2016 and Beyond: Promoting Good Governance and Sustainable Inclusive Growth”, President Aquino recognized the hard work and dedication of the LGUs for its constituents, saying such public service reflects the core mission of his administration’s ‘Daang Matuwid.’
As he spoke before hundreds of mayors representing different municipalities in the country, the President reported about the positive changes brought about by the continuous cooperation between the local and national government. From infrastructures to disaster preparedness and various community projects, he assured that the government has no shortcomings when it comes to public service.
This, President Aquino believes, is a clear example of what can be achieved if everyone continues walking the straight path. And as he steps down from the office on June 30, he expressed his hope for LGU leaders to continue the positive changes they have started, as he is a firm believer that a small change can make a huge difference in the country.
President Aquino was joined by Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento and the Liberal Party standard bearers.
