President Benigno S. Aquino III conferred the Order of Sikatuna with the rank of Grand Cross, Gold Distinction (Datu, Katangiang Ginto) on H.E. Dato Mohd Zamri Bin Mohd Kassim, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines, during the envoy’s farewell call at Malacañan Palace.

The conferment was in recognition of Ambassador Kassim’s outstanding efforts in further elevating and strengthening relations between the two countries, notably the facilitation of high-level meetings such as the State Visit of Prime Minister Najib Razak to the Philippines for the period 2013-2015, including the Prime Minister’s participation as witness to the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

Likewise, the envoy was lauded for Malaysia’s financial and humanitarian assistance to the country in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan on 2013, and for Malaysia’s continued assistance to the peace process between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

President Aquino was accompanied by Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary Laura Del Rosario (International Economic Relations) and Assistant Secretary Minda Calaguian-Cruz (Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs) during the event.
