Vatican City, Rome
28 November 2015
St. Peter’s Square is a large open space spreading out before the Basilica of St. Peter, one of the biggest churches in the world located in Vatican City, and a famous landmark in Rome.
An Egyptian obelisk marked the center of the plaza and a granite fountain by Carlo Maderno. Gian Lorenzo Bernini designed the square, including the magnificent four-column Tuscan colonnades. This was made in such a way so that the greatest number of people could see the Pope when he gives his blessing from the church or from the Vatican Palace window.
