President Benigno S. Aquino III joined his co-leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Plus Three Leaders from the Republic of Korea, Japan and the People’s Republic of China in meeting the East Asia Business Council (EABC) during the first day of the 27th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The EABC is a private advisory group comprising three business leaders from each ASEAN Member States and the Plus Three countries from South Korea, Japan and China. These business leaders are appointed by their respective Economic Ministers.
Among the objectives of the EABC are – to provide private sector perspective and feedback to deepen economic cooperation and to promote the region’s economic growth; to strengthen cooperation among the private sectors in ASEAN and the Plus Three countries, as well as to promote intra-regional trade and investment.
On February 2015, the Philippines led the 30th meeting of the EABC council in Tagaytay wherein South Korea formally turned over the chairmanship to the Philippines.
