Built in 1909, it is the oldest and first brick mosque in Kuala Lumpur constructed on the first Malay burial ground.

The architecture was inspired by the Mogul influences of northern India and features three Mogul domes, a courtyard, minarets set at a symmetrical composition of the mosque, and smaller chhatris surrounding it.

The mosque is strategically located in the heart of the city and sits at the meeting point of the Klang and Gombak rivers, known as the birthplace of Kuala Lumpur that literally means ‘muddy confluence,’ in 1857.
