President Benigno S. Aquino III met with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo, Japan on the third day of his State Visit.
During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to strengthen security ties by holding a joint military training and exercises, as well as to cooperate in building up the Philippine Coast Guard.
On the economic front, Japan agreed to cooperate with the Philippines on transport infrastructure development projects in and around Metro Manila, including a 300 billion yen ($2.4 billion) North-to-South Commuter Railway Project.
Before the meeting with Prime Minister Abe, President Aquino attended a signing ceremony on a deal to provide patrol ships to the Philippine Coast Guard.
