The buildings in Parliament Hill overlooking Ottawa River in the heart of the downtown area of Ottawa is the most visited attraction in the capital of Canada with around three millions of visitors per year.
The Gothic-style structures atop a hill is home of the Parliament of Canada. It is the seat of the federal government and also a venue for the biggest national celebrations like Canada Day. The grounds of Parliament Hill with the lawns of the East and West Blocks serve as a
public park for visitors.
In 1916, a fire almost destroyed the central block of the parliament and departmental buildings. Now it is being renovated and rehabilitated under a $1-billion project for all precinct buildings and is expected to be completed until after 2020.
Parliament Hill’s attractions include the Peace Tower with carillon of 53 bells, which chimes every quarter-hour, and a fountain where the Centennial Flame burns in its centre.
