President Benigno S. Aquino III inspected the Batangas Port Complex (BPC) in Batangas City to ensure the safety of the passengers travelling via the Roll-on Roll-off (RORO) nautical highway to their select destinations this Lenten season.

The President personally checked the port facilities including the Ticketing Booths, an X-ray machine in the Passengers and Baggage Screening Center and the Passengers’ Waiting Lounge to see to it that everything is running smoothly.

He then climbed aboard a fast craft bound for Calapan, Oriental Mindoro and looked closely into the equipment inside the vessel, particularly life vests. Soon after, he boarded a state-of-the-art RORO vessel which is also bound for Calapan. There, the President greeted some of the passengers who are waiting for their ship to sail.

Afterwards, President Aquino stayed inside the terminal to answer some questions regarding his inspection of the Batangas Port. He said that he was impressed with what he saw especially with the RORO vessel he boarded earlier. “Yung Fast Cat, nakaka-impress naman yung kanilang equipment, looks to be very modern. The passengers were all smiling, nobody approached me with any complains,” the President said.

While inside the Batangas Port Complex, the President was accompanied by Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Atty. Juan Sta. Ana, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Dr. Maximo Mejia, Jr., BPC Port Manager Atty. Leopoldo Biscocho, Jr., and Batangas City Mayor Eddie Dimacuha.
